Ep. #19: Loving What You Sell

Hi, I’m Kim Trathen, Business mentor for sales professionals and entrepreneurs. I help my clients hit their goals faster so they can make more money while working fewer hours.

Today, we’re talking about loving what you sell.

Because when you don’t love what you sell - sales become SO. MUCH. HARDER.

So let’s dive in….

FIRST, what result feels so good and delicious to you that you’re EXCITED to talk to people about it? This may or may not be your current offer.

This key to this is discerning the difference between being excited to sell something and selling something that feels easy/safe.

For example: I see this a lot with early stage entrepreneurs that try to launch only selling passive income. And I get the desire - passive income is pretty cool. But when you try to launch a passive course because, deep down, you’re scared to talk to people or don’t think you’re good at sales - that is a good sign you’re trying to sell something that feels easy or safe. Which isn’t the same as building something you’re passionate about.

The 3 steps to selling what you love are:

  1. You must see the value in it. Meaning, how much do you believe your offer will get your clients the result they want?

  2. You must believe in your abilities to delver the offer. This is not the same as #1. This means you believe in the value of YOU getting your clients this result.

  3. Discern between loving what you sell and selling something that keeps you safe.

To do this work, go through each and rank yourself, on a scale of 1-10 how much do you believe in the value of your offer, in your abilities to deliver the offer, and that WHAT you are selling is the best damn thing for your clients (not a distraction for you to hide behind).

This is some of the most powerful, honest work you will do.
